Missed A Computer Class?

In the first half of 2012, we featured many different classes and events being held at the Cary Senior Center. Some included basic technology courses for seniors to get caught up in the fast-paced world of computers. In case any of our viewers missed these classes, there is still hope! A Computer Club for seniors 55 and over meets at 1:30 PM on the second Saturday of each month (July 14th, this coming weekend) to discuss various aspects of using a computer, software, and general interest for members. Speakers may be outside guests or members of the club that give presentations on new topics. Topics covered include Windows, Apple/Macintosh and Linux operating systems.

The club meets at the Cary Senior Center, located at 120 Maury O’Dell Place, Cary NC. The phone number is (919) 469-4081, if more information is required.

Get Involved: Volunteering

Knitting Yarn Provided by KeetsaThere are many different ways to give back in the world today. One of the most satisfying things is to see someone else smile and know that you have done something good for them. The Cary Senior Center in Cary, North Carolina offers weekly volunteer programs for just this reason. There are different programs within the volunteer category.

Every Monday, seniors meet for a community sewing group. Volunteers sew, knit, and crochet a variety of dolls, quilts, and other goodies to be donated to local hospitals and care centers. More volunteers are always welcome, as are donations of material, such as yarns, cotton cloths, and other fabrics. For details, it is requested that those interested call the Senior Center (phone number provided below). This group meets in the ballroom of the vicinity from 9 AM to 11:30 AM.

In a separate program called Warm Up America, seniors are encouraged to bring knitting needles, yarn, and a warm heart! Volunteers knit and crochet blankets that will then be donated to various local charities. The creativity, self-expression and care that goes into these items can be felt always. Some yarn is provided, however donations are always accepted. This program meets in Classroom 303 on the third Thursday of every month, from 1 PM to 4 PM.

If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities, finding out about other events going on at the Cary Senior Center, or other ways you can volunteer, please call (919) 469-4081.

The Cary Senior Center is located at 120 Maury O’Dell Place within Fred G. Bond Metro Park in Cary, NC. Bond Park is located off of High House Road between the intersections of Cary Parkway and High House and Maynard Road and High House.
